Red Ravens

The Maciejowski (mah-chay-YAWF-skee) Bible is a superb reference for 13th century costume and armour. It was made somewhere between 1244 and 1254 for King Louis IX of France.

Water hardened leather can be used as a relatively cheap form of armour. It is known as cuirboulli - cured by boiling. It is made by dipping leather into boiling water.
