The first goal on joining the club is to achieve Man-at-Arms status. This is done by demonstrating that you can handle a sword safely, and by attending 6 out of 8 consecutive training days. This title is bestowed after being charged by the club. This charging ceremony involves the rest of the club running past you in close formation, holding spears (non contact, just a bit of fun :).
To be able to compete in interclub events members must be graded. The foundation weapons are the short sword, dagger or seax, quarter staff, long sword. After completing all these, members are then eligible to train in advanced weapons, weapon and shield combinations, and stand for club officer positions.
